Medicare

Medicare

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people over age 65, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with EndStage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD).

Medicare A & B cover 80% of Medicare approved services, leaving customers with the remaining 20% and deductibles for Part A and Part B. We offer Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage Plans to help offset the remaining 20%.

Medicare Advantage are plans, sold through private insurance companies, that take the place of traditional Medicare coverage.  You do not lose your Medicare coverage, but you put it aside while enrolled in Medicare Advantage.  Most plans offer very low up front premiums and you pay co-pays or co-insurance for all services you receive.  One example might be a co-pay of $15 for a Primary Care Doctor visit.  These plans usually provide Prescription drug coverage as well as health.  You should let NorthTrust give you a comprehensive explanation of the benefits and requirements of your enrollment into these plans.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Consider these facts in deciding if a Medicare Advantage Plan for hospital and medical coverage is right for you:

  • Medicare Advantage Plans may cover costs & services not covered by Original Medicare.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans may also include Prescription Drug coverage (Part D).
  • Medicare Advantage Plans may have lower deductibles & co-payments than Original Medicare.
  • Medicare Advantage Plans may have lower premiums than Medicare Supplement Plans.
  • No health questions asked. All Medicare beneficiaries, including people on Medicare due to a disability, are guaranteed acceptance regardless of health conditions (except for End Stage Renal Disease).

Medicare Supplement Insurance

Medicare Supplements can assist in covering the remaining 20% of Medicare approved charges, or deductibles, that Original Medicare does not cover.

Medicare Supplement policies generally don’t cover long-term care, vision or dental care, hearing aids, eyeglasses, or private-duty nursing.

Medicare Part D Drug Plans

Medicare drug coverage helps pay for prescription drugs you need. Even if you don’t take prescription drugs now, you should consider getting Medicare drug coverage. Medicare drug coverage is optional and is offered to everyone with Medicare. If you decide not to get it when you’re first eligible, you’ll likely pay a late enrollment penalty if you join a plan later. Generally, you’ll pay this penalty for as long as you have Medicare drug coverage.

Drug plans are offered for a monthly premium and offer your prescription drugs to you at discounted prices instead of paying retail prices.
